Faculty Fellowship

Clare Martin

The Faculty is delighted to announce it has awarded a Fellowship to Clare Martin, President of the Faculty from 2000 to 2009.

This is a rare award, bestowed for exceptional service, and was presented to Clare at Faculty Open Day on 20th March 2010. Clare’s presidency marked years of great change for the Faculty, and her leadership, immense hard work and passion for astrological education ensured the Faculty grew from strength to strength during this period. The Council of the Faculty make this award with heart-felt gratitude for Clare’s immense contribution.

New Online Learning Environment & Student Forum

In August last year the Faculty opened its new Online Learning Environment – many of our students now use the OLE, which houses all of our course material, with the remainder of the Faculty’s student body moving over to it in the coming months.

Carole TaylorAt the present time, the OLE is simply a convenient online store for the nine modules of our course material, giving students instant access to the material without the need for CDs.  In the coming months though, our plan is to extend the functions of the OLE to include additional learning resources such as extra-curricular articles and information, as well as the possibility of online tutorials or tutor-led discussion groups.

The Faculty’s Student Forum is also now housed in the OLE – there are three forums to choose from (Foundation, Diploma Level I and Diploma Level II) and you are free to join whichever forum suits your level of study (or more than one!).  The forums are very new, but they are an excellent way to connect to other Faculty students across the world – friends made through the world of astrology often remain friends for life, linked together by mutual love of our wonderful and inspiring subject.  So don’t be shy – post a new thread and begin a new discussion about a subject which interests you!

If you don’t already have a login code for the OLE, but would like to join in the Student Forums, then write to Carole Taylor, the Director of Studies, here.

Tutors' Meeting 2010

On 21st and 22nd March 2010 the Faculty tutors gathered together in London for their biennial meeting, with several tutors flying in from overseas to attend. This was a wonderful opportunity to discuss the Faculty courses and examinations and to connect socially as a team. Much creative discussion occurred, and exciting new ideas emerged. Watch this space…!

Distance Learning New Part Modules

We are pleased to announce that from 1st June 2010 there will be more part-modules available, increasing the overall flexibility of the Diploma programme.  Modules 4, 5, 7 and 8 will be available as a selection of part-modules to both Distance Learning and Classes students, allowing you to spread the workload and the cost of your studies.

Module 4 will now be available as Transits (3/4 module) and Solar Returns (1/4 module), module 5 as Progressions (3/4 module) and Directions (1/4 module) and the Module 7 half-module ‘Midpoints & Harmonics’ is now available as two quarter modules. You can purchase these part-modules through the online booking centre as usual. Part-modules will now also be eligible for extensions, should you need additional time to complete your exercises.

See the Distance Learning Conditions of Enrolment for full details.

Classes Programme 2010-11

The Faculty’s 2010-2011 programme of London Classes will begin in October 2010. The Autumn term will provide an opportunity to study modules 1, 4 and 7, the Spring term 2, 5 and 8 and the Summer term 3, 6 and 9. Foundation course modules (1, 2 and 3) may be taken either as four Saturday seminars per term or as ten Wednesday evenings each term. Diploma modules (4-9) are all available as Saturday seminars, making it possible for those living outside London to attend.

With excellent transport links and proximity to both Russell Square and to the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras, our central London venue, part of London University, is easily reached from most areas of the United Kingdom and Western Europe. Don’t forget that as a Faculty student, you can also combine Classes’ with Distance Learning, for example taking Module 1 as a Class, and Module 2 as Distance Learning, giving you great flexibility as you progress through the Faculty’s courses. Module 1 Wednesday begins on 13th October, Module 1 Saturday on 16th October and Modules 4 and 7 will begin on 23rd October.

Open Evenings 2010

Paolo Cortucci

The Faculty will be hosting two open evenings on 29th September 2010 and 6th October 2010. These evenings will be an opportunity for prospective new students to come along and talk to Faculty tutors about our courses and find out more about what the Faculty has to offer; Classes and Distance Learning options will both be discussed. Current students are welcome to drop-in too! Venue and time details are available in the Classes brochure for 2010-2011.   If you would like any further information on these evenings then please contact our Head Tutor, Paolo Cortucci, here.

Faculty Status

With Pluto in Capricorn insisting on intense scrutiny of all matters concerning organisational structure, the Council of the Faculty have decided it is time to set the Faculty on a more formal legal footing. The Faculty will shortly therefore become a Company Limited by Guarantee, a legal structure ensuring that the Faculty’s liability is limited. Although this will entail some additional compliance and administrative work, the chief benefit will be that the Faculty will be a recognised legal entity in its own right. The Faculty’s non-profit making philosophy and existence as an organisation devoted to excellence in astrological education will of course remain unchanged, and all the key clauses of the current Constitution will take their place in the new Articles of Association.
